Mrs. Bernice Harris Darsaw of 1811 South 13th Street, Cordele, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025, at her residence.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the J. W. Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.
Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services must wear a mask and practice social distancing. A mask must be worn throughout the stay. You must supply your mask.
Mrs. Bernice Harris Darsaw, a cherished matriarch, was born on January 17, 1935, in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia. She was the beloved daughter of Walter Harris and Kathryn Kellam Harris. Educated in the public schools of Crisp County, Bernice was a lifelong learner who valued education and wisdom.
From an early age, Bernice was a devoted member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church, where she nurtured her faith and served her community. Her great passion was serving the Lord Jesus Christ, and she found immense joy in welcoming everyone into her home with a warm meal and open arms. Her hospitality and care for her family were unparalleled, and she was a pillar of strength for those around her.
Bernice's life was a tapestry of love, woven together by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughters, Betty Jo Darrisaw and Barbara Ann Cross, and her siblings, Betty Sue Walker, Maggie Wallace, Johnny Harris, Katie Nix, Louise Harris, Leroy Harris, Elijah Pirant, and Annie Mae Harris. A special friend, Ruth Lane, also preceded her in death.
On Saturday, February 22, 2025, Bernice went home to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and unwavering love. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her. Bernice's life was a testament to love, faith, and service, and her influence will be felt for generations to come.
Her memory lives on through her devoted sons: Eddie Mathis of Cordele, Georgia, James Mathis (Malinda) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Anthony Harris (Beverly) of Cordele, Georgia; her loving grandchildren: Lamakia Moses-Lawson (Darek), Latoya Moses-Dawson (Nicholas), Tammera Darrisaw, Tramayne Mathis (Clarissa), Bryant Ward, Candace Mathis, Antoine Harris, Dontavious Harris (Sharda), Alexus Harris, Brittany Harris, and Dankevion Newsom; a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends.
