Ms. Barbara Jean Roberts of 281 King Avenue, Rochelle, Georgia died Monday, October 14, 2024 at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Wilcox County High School Gymnasium in Rochelle, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Spring Hill Church Cemetery in Tippettville, Georgia.

On August 20, 1948 the union of Handson and Martha Roberts was blessed with the birth of a beautiful daughter.  Born in Pineview, Georgia, she was lovingly named, Barbara Jean.

She was educated in the public schools of Wilcox County where she graduated from the Excelsior High School.  Over the years she attended various technical colleges where she received training as a Certified Childcare Provider.  She also earned continuing educational credits in Infectious Disease Prevention.

Barbara loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  She served him faithfully as a member of Mount Beulah Baptist Church in Pineview, Georgia. Her commitment to her Savior was evident as she willingly served as a member of the choir as well as the Kitchen/Clean-up Committee.  She never limited herself to what she would do in her service to the Lord.

She enjoyed many wonderful moments with her family and friends. Playing cards and watching the Kansas City Chiefs were among the many things that gave her added joy.

On Monday, October 14, 2024, our beloved mother and  grandmother peacefully transitioned from this life to life eternal.  Her love and the joy she imparted will live on in the hearts of her loving children, Joann Morehead of Rochelle, Georgia, Iris (Nelson) McClendon of Pitts, Georgia, Frances (Makeem) Griffin and Valerie King both of Rochelle, Georgia, Jessica (Wayne Jr.) Cunningham of Anniston, Alabama, Lionel King, Robert King, Jr. III, and Christy King all of Rochelle, Georgia; 38 loving grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; her loving sisters, Julia Roberts of Rochelle, Georgia, Linda Coley of Hawkinsville, Georgia, Dorothy Roberts of Warner Robins, Georgia, Geneva Howard of Rochelle, Georgia, Mattie Thornton and Dorothy Burden of Pitts, Georgia, Mae Lewis of Rochelle, Georgia, and Mary Harrell of Hawkinsville, Georgia; her beloved brothers, Handson Roberts, Jr. of Ashburn, Georgia, Walter Roberts of Douglasville, Georgia, and Albert Thornton of Vienna, Georgia; a godson, Philanzee Lawson of Pineview, Georgia; two sisters-in-law; a host nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, to include, Johnie Armstrong of Rochelle, Georgia and Joyce Ann Thornton of Abbeville, Georgia.
