Mrs. Alpina Styles Sweet of 310 Styles Drive, Desoto, Georgia died Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Monday, July 18, 2022 at 11:00 AM on the grounds of the New Beulah Baptist Church in Cobb, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Sue Walker Cemetery in Cobb, Georgia.  Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice of social distancing.

NINETY-SEVEN years of useful life ended July 13, 2022. Sister Alpina Styles Sweet was called from her earthly home to her everlasting Heavenly home. It is God's will that the laborer shall sleep. Let tired laborers be encouraged, for there is a time for rest. Let mourners be comforted, for your loved one who served the Savior is just sleeping. She shall awake to the newness of life.

Sister Alpina Styles Sweet was born October 31, 1924, in Maryville, Tennessee to the late Reverend Stailey Styles and Lealor Oliver Styles. Her parents would later move back to Lee County, Georgia where she received her primary education in the Lee County School System.

In addition to her parents, Alpina was preceded in death by her first husband, James Brown and later her second husband, Ero Sweet. She was also preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Deacon Stailey Styles, Jr. and Sarah Styles Shootes; and her loving sister-in-law, Gloria Hamilton Styles and brothers-in-law, John Thompson, Sr., Reverend   Lonnie Harris, Sr. and Earnest Waters.

Alpina resided in Americus, Georgia with her husband, James Brown for five years before moving to Springfield, Massachusetts. Upon moving to Springfield, Massachusetts, she received a degree in Culinary Arts from the Springfield Technical College and went on to work as a Culinary Arts Instructor for many years.

Alpina received Christ at an early age and  joined the New Beulah Baptist Church in Lee County, Georgia. Upon relocating to Springfield, Massachusetts, she joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and later joined the Cathedral of Praise Baptist Church in Springfield, Massachusetts where Reverend Don Washington served as pastor. During her time of service, she served as a deacon, choir member, usher, mission president, and participated in all other auxiliaries of the church. She lived in Springfield, Massachusetts for 50 years and returned to Georgia reuniting with the New Beulah Baptist Church where she attended faithfully.

On July 13, 2022, God sent His angel to accompany Alpina Sweet from this earthly existence to one in Heaven where peace will endure in her life forevermore. She will truly be missed by all.

She leaves to cherish her memory:  her honorary sons, Robert (Sharon) George of Springfield, Massachusetts; Reverend Don (Lee) Washington of Fort Worth, Texas; her sisters, Elizabeth Waters, Desoto, Georgia; Mattie Thompson, Orlando, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews,  cousins, friends and family, including Dr. Brooks Robinson.
