Mr. Alonza Lee Mitchell, Sr. of 511 North 4th Street, Cordele, Georgia died Sunday, February 20, 2022 at his residence.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 5:00 PM the J. W. Williams Funeral Home Porte Cochere in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Fort Early Church Cemetery in Warwick, Georgia. Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
Alonza Lee Mitchell, Sr. was born May 30, 1955 in Worth County, Georgia. He was born to Mr. Johnny Carter and Ms. Mayola Mitchell.
The seeds of education were planted at the New Hope School where he received his early education. He later continued his education at the J. W. Holley High School in Sylvester, Georgia.
He loved the Lord, Jesus Christ and was a member of the Hilltop Church of Christ.
Family was very important to him and he was dedicated to doing whatever could for them. An excellent provider, he was a self-employed trucker. His love for trucking and his love for people was evident over the years as he gained many new brothers from his travels on the road.
On Sunday morning, February 20, 2022, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather traded the cares of this life for a life free of suffering and pain. His parents, his son, Alonza Mitchell, Jr., and a grandson, Titus Mitchell precede him in death. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Mr. Dennis Carter, Mr. Johnny Will Carter, Mr. Elijah Lee Mitchell, and Mr. Coley Mitchell.
Cherished memories of his life, will forever be in the hearts of his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Minnie Mitchell of Cordele, Georgia; his loving and devoted children, Mrs. Anniessa (Gregory) Anderson of Orange Park, Florida, Mr. Antwain Mitchell of Savannah, Georgia, and Ms. Ammiesha Mitchell of Orange Park, Florida; 11 beloved grandchildren; his brothers, Mr. Willie J. Mitchell and Mr. Troy (Ginger) Mitchell of Albany, Georgia, Mr. Eddie B. Carter and Mr. Thomas Nelson both of Warwick, Georgia; eight sisters-in-law; seven brothers-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews; many cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include a host of new brothers chosen while trucking.
